website research

 First Website: https://www.artofthetitle.com

The first choice for a website to research title sequences was "Art of the Title." This website is an electronic archive dedicated to films, TV shows, and more. This is not an unpopular website too because they have over 400,000 readers a month and over 100,000 social media followers throughout all their accounts. The website is also run by a full time writer who designed newspapers, Lola Landekic. We chose this website because of its credibility and content. This website has information about title sequences and its original locations. It also shows the videos in perfect quality and demonstrates how the title sequences look like. Not only this, but they rank the best ones of the year for readers to see. The explanations behind these chosen title sequences. This involves multiple different genres like thriller or horror, or animation to show many examples of how bigger studios make them.

Second Website: https://www.watchthetitles.com/

The second choice for a website to research title sequences was "Watch the Titles!" This website is dedicated for the art of title designs and their creators. This website features over 200 title sequences archived through many types of genres. There is also many behind-the-scenes content and interviews featuring the ideas that came behind the title sequence. This website started as a collection of a few opening titles and had been worked on since 2004 all the way through 2019.  We chose this website because this allows us to see the ideas behind the title sequences. This is big because our team had no idea on what we could really do for our own title sequences. When we watch these interviews about the ideas behind the scenes, that could inspire our group for what we should do. We also chose this website because of the types of content it has. Not only does it have movies, but it also has different types or media like video games, TV shows, student projects, and event titles.

John Wick

After gunning down a member of the High Table -- the shadowy international assassin's guild -- legendary hit man John Wick finds himself stripped of the organization's protective services. Now stuck with a $14 million bounty on his head, Wick must fight his way through the streets of New York as he becomes the target of the world's most ruthless killers.

Common camera angles found in the movie are extreme close up shots, two shots, close up shots, and wide shots.Costume: The costume that John Wick and his male adversaries wears is suits and the women wear special dresses.Lighting: The lighting in this movie is mostly from lamps because the movie has action scenes that takes place in the dark inside or at night outside. The only time we see daylight was when John was sent to the desert.Acting: In this movie, John Wick spends lots of time on the run or hiding because of the bounty on his head. The acting is him using many weapons to kill the bounty hunters by throwing knives or shooting guns.Makeup: Many scenes that have John Wick are when he has blood on his face. This blood is made from makeup and serves the purpose to make him look injured.Props: Props found in this movie are the guns and knives that John Wick and his enemies use to try and kill each other.Setting: This movie takes place in New York and Morocco. New York was used for the city segments and Morocco was used for the desert scenes. Common Editing: In this movie, there are cuts before every hit between a specific enemy. This is unique because usually in fighting scenes, there are cuts during each hit to make the choreography better. Common sounds: The sounds here are sound effects of punches, stabs, and gun shots that John Wick deals to his adversaries.Elements of the genre in the movie: The fight scenes are long and it may not be entirely clear about who is going to win the battle, so it gives the viewer the impression that John Wick may get beaten with all the hits he has taken. The elements I like i
n this movie is the action scenes that took place between John Wick and his enemies. These scenes felt very realistic and were mostly done by the actors and not stunt doubles. The main element that does not appeal to me was the lighting issue. In this movie, there are only a few scenes where John Wick sees sunlight and for the rest of the movie it has dark lighting. This lighting could be set to the dark theme of murder and revenge, but there are other solutions to set the theme this way.

Infinity war

Common sounds: There is non-diegetic music that fits almost every scene from adventure to action.

Elements of the genre in the movie: The plot is very dark and full of suspense for Infinity wars. The fighting scenes spark an exhilaration from the audience and keeps the audience very interested and they ponder what will happen next.

The elements: The elements that catch my eye in this movie is the high quality CGI. Not only is the CGI an eye catcher but also the plot and climax in the story. I also loved how this movie has representation of another country (Wakanda) and has African American actors to play the role of the character that's known as the leader (Black panther)

Spiderman

Spiderman: No Way Home is about Peter Parker having to deal with his identity as Spiderman revealed to the whole world. In order to save his friend's potential futures for college, he asks a wizard named Dr. Strange to make everyone forget his secret identity, but everything goes wrong as villains from different dimensions come to fight Spiderman. Now Spiderman has to risk everything in order to stop them and send them back to their original dimensions.

Common camera angles found in the movie are close up shots, medium long shots, wide shots, and long shots.Costume: The costumes are usually a superhero uniform and supervillain uniforms that represent their personality.Lighting: The lighting in this movie is on many of the magic effects. Lighting is also found in from sunlight because for most of the movie they are outside.Acting: The acting is mostly scenes of talking to one another, but many of the scenes feature stunts in the action scenes where people are fighting.Makeup: The makeup in this movie was specifically used to make the villains look younger than they actually are.Props: Props found in this movie are the webs that Spiderman uses, and the multiple weapons that the villains use to attack.Setting: For most of the movie, the setting is outside and takes place during day and night.Common Editing: CGI is found in many fighting scenes in this movie because many of the stunts or swinging that Spiderman does is not possible for people to do.Common sounds: There is non-diegetic music that fits almost every scene from sadness, to triumphant.Elements of the genre in the movie: The plot is very dark and full of suspense for Spiderman. The fighting scenes spark an exhilaration from the audience and keeps the audience very interested and they ponder what will happen next. The elements I like in this movie is depressing scenes where Peter Parker is sad and disheartened. I like these scenes because they make the audience feel emotions for Peter Parker when he's losing
what he has.The main element that does not appeal to me was the multiple villains. In this movie, there are 5 villains that Spiderman has to fight and send back home. The problem is now some of these villains do not feel fleshed out enough and will be forgotten for the bigger villains to steal the show.

Final task Genre Selection

Our group decided to do the thriller genre for our short film. We came to this decision because we looked at many of our favorite films. The thing we found in common was the genre thriller, and the elements of emotions it gives off. The ability to give the audience many emotions in the sitting of one film is admirable by our group and what we want to recreate. Another element that we admired was the suspense that it builds overtime. This leaves a feeling of mystery and uncertainty for the viewer to be astonished when the truth comes out. For our opening sequence, we will open up within the dead of night. While two brothers are sleeping, there's an assassin looking to kill one of the brothers. The assassin gets inside the house and kills one of the brothers offscreen, then leave a card threatening the brother. Once the other brother wakes up from the other brother's cry, he will be shocked and emotional. Then he will read the left behind card and make up his mind to get revenge on his brother's killer.

Genre Research: Action

The action genre is when the main character is put in situations where they are filled with intense violence or exciting physical feats.

Common camera angles found in the action genre can are close up shots, medium shots, long shots to show a scene Costume: Common clothing for an Action film is suits or specialized costumes to make them more recognizable.Lighting: For an action film there is usually good lighting unless we're in a scene where dynamic flashing or a change of color in lights. Acting: For an action film there is usually good acting to emphasize emotion Makeup: Makeup can be used to help an actor look more like their represent their designated character. Props: Props in a action movie may include items such as weapons, vehicles, or money. Setting: Outside is usually the setting for an action movie as action movies can tend to be more adventurous. Common Editing in action films is usually fast paced camera panning tend to be used in action film to emphasize the dynamics. Other editing such as CGI can be used in action films such as in "The Flash" Common sounds in action films are onomatopoeia. Sounds such as BANG and BOOM are examples of common sounds in this genre of film. Example films of your genres: Avengers Endgame, Black Panther, Spiderman No Way Home The elements I like in action movies are the dynamics that usually occur in mostly action films such as a fighting scene or a running scene. The main element that does not appeal to me is the long plot building. This completely over shadows an action movie for one that is driven for mostly plot.

Genre Research: Thriller

The thriller Genre is typically exiting and consist of crime. there seems to be a lot of suspense present in this genre. think of a movie like the quiet place. the audience is immersed in a movie that has no character conversation. almost the whole movie is complete silence. in thriller movies, there is a lot of close up shots because they add to suspense. just like in horror movies, there can be a lot of high pitch instruments playing as the background music/overlay. there can be situations like having to solve a murder or finding out who is the bad guy. like all other genres, thriller can be very specific. there is a lot of types of action, horror, and romance movies. there is many different types of  situations that fit into the thriller genre. i like to think of thriller as a more suspenseful version of horror. moods can change the feeling in thriller movies by making something feel very important. surprise fits into the genre because of the thought of not knowing something would happen. Often times thriller movies have many other sub genres in the mix. there can be a thriller horror movie like the quiet place. things that can happen in thriller movies include murder, kidnapping, heists, and many others. there are events in thriller movies that can lead up to main events that would fit into other genres like a romantic triangle. throughout the movie, tension will almost always increase. most of the time, thrillers take place in suburbs and cities.

Genre Research: Romance

The romance genre is a love story where two people overcome adversity to obtain their happily ever after.

The camera angles that can be found in the romance genre are the two shot and over the shoulder shot for showing a conversation between the two lovers. Mid shots can also be found to give a detailed look of the body language of the characters.Costumes: Suits and dresses can be seen for weddings, dances, dates, and parties.Lighting: There is usually dim lights for a romantic tone inside.Acting: The actors for these movies have to pretend to be in love and may have to touch each other and kissMakeup: This is used by both men and women to boost their facial features and make them look more expressive when talking. Props: Props in romance movies include items such as rings to show marriage, a bouquet of flowers for a gift on dates, or restaurant menus for the date.Setting: Cities such as Paris or New York are used as popular cities for romance movies. Many movies would take place near christmas or winter and at night.Editing: Cross-cutting can be found in the movies in order to establish certain actions between 2 places. The pace of the editing is also shown to go faster as the plot deepens to show change. Sound: The sound is usually ambient and non-diegetic music in order to make a smooth atmosphere for the audience.Examples of romance films are Resort to Love, The Kissing Booth 3, and West Side Story.Elements that I really like from the romance genre is the suspense where one of the lovers are in danger and the other lover has to save them. This creates a mystery for one of the lovers to solve in order to help the other one out.The elements that doesn't appeal to me is the "will they won't they" factor. This makes the romance story seem like it takes forever to get the plot moving because there are always going to be issues in the way.

Final Task Pitch

For our first pitch, there's someone that is taken hostage, and it's up to their friends in order to save them. This first pitch is great because it can be maneuvered in many different directions. We could change it to have a plot twist at the end or show that the one who was kidnapped was actually the bad guy. Our group thought that this type of pitch could have the same concept, but change the climax and falling point. We also have doubts about this pitch because this seems like a overused movie topic and probably couldn't be the main subject in the movie. In many movies, a kidnapping is a major plot point but not what the movie is mainly about.

For our second pitch, 4 friends would go and play in the woods and encounter a monster or a beast in the dark. Our team likes this pitch because this makes the world seem mysterious, as if we don't know everything that lurks beyond our view. We even have the option at filming at night to make it extra scary. A problem with this pitch is that it feels too unrealistic to happen in real life. It's not high odds that 4 random kids would go into the woods to play at night. It's even less of a realistic chance that a monster would appear out of nowhere. Overall, we think that pitch one is better because it makes more sense than pitch 2, where it would be hard to create a mystery off a kidnapping, but it would be more realistic than a monster.

Final Task

This was definitely the hardest project thus far, and we had somewhat of a rough time but by the end we persevered, Personally i think disr...
